Diverse forms of architectural designs have evolved over time. From the conventional designs to the trendy or stylish ones-you can see a mammoth's change in terms of design. Architecture first took large-scale shape with the construction of the Egyptian pyramids. However, today's architects are beginning to construct buildings in deference to their energy efficiency. This sustainable architecture, or green architecture, uses recyclable materials and strategically positions buildings to reuse their own energy.
This article will give you an insight about the different architectural styles which can be used to design your home or apartment. The most beautiful and popular of all styles would be the Ancient Greek Architecture. The beautiful and ornate carvings and pillars speak volumes of the ancient Greek architecture. There existed three major architectural systems (orders) in Greek architecture. The three orders are Doric, Ionic and Corinthian. All these styles add exuberance and modesty to your home.
Gothic architecture was prominent during the high and the late medieval period and began at the Abbey of Saint-Denis. There are certain characteristics that are particularly symbolic of Gothic architecture such as the pointed arches, large individual windows, flamboyant designs and the emphasis on the creation of vertical lines in the design.
Frank Lloyd Wright revolutionized the American home when he began to design "Prairie" style houses with low horizontal lines and open interior spaces. Prairie style architecture was seen in 19th century to the early period of 20th century. The first Prairie houses were usually plaster with wood trim or sided with horizontal board and batten. Later Prairie homes used concrete block. Prairie homes can have many shapes: Square, L-shaped, T-shaped, Y-shaped, and even pinwheel-shaped.
