All About Tuscan Furniture Design Features

Author: Brena Talmet

Over the course of the past ten years or so the Italian or Tuscan design element has become more and more popular in furniture and interior design. What is is it that makes this style so different from other design styles in furniture and interior design? To start with it is a design style that uses the many influences of Italian and Roman history.

For instance you will find materials such as polished marble and stone as well as iron work in this type of furniture design. Furniture in the Tuscan style also contains some unique architectural elements in the design of things such as chair legs that can resemble fluted columns. Italian furniture can also be very ornamental at times and have geometric elements as well.

Tuscan wrought iron work can be very beautiful with iron leafs and vines winding their way around the basic ironwork in the structure. Often the wrought iron furniture also incorporates the elements of polished marble or tile mosaics.

The modern Tuscan style of furniture hearkens back to the 14th century when European architecture went through a transformation. It was then that Italian architects learned how to make the buildings that they designed taller and also how to make the domes that were on top of them wider.

It was in these buildings that what we now recognize as the classic Tuscan style was arrived at by using scrolling iron work, floor and wall mosaics and heavy ornimentation all combined together. It is these basic features that are relied on to form the basis for what is now recognized as contemporary Italian or Tuscan design furniture.

One of the many reasons for the surging popularity of this classic furniture design is that it goes so well in homes that are built with Medeteranian design features.
